At the Peter Pan Centre we supported Deaf awareness week by engaging in activities to promote communication.   These strategies include PECS, Makaton, core boards, choice boards, gestures, pictures, eye gaze, Big Mac button and objects of reference.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                   Deaf Awareness Week(6th-12th May 2024) is an annual event that aims to raise awareness about the Deaf community, language, culture, and history.  It is a time to advocate for equal access to communication and services for the Deaf and hard of hearing. This week-long event provides an opportunity for individuals and organisations to come together and support the Deaf community.

We also shared our introductions using sign language and other forms of communication – check out our video on our Facebook page!    PeterPan Centre for Children with Special Needs | Newcastle under Lyme | Facebook

Here are a few pictures of ways that we communicate at the centre.  We’d love to hear the ways that you communicate at home! 💜
