Denise Leigh

Denise Leigh

Denise Leigh is the winner of channel 4’s Operatunity, Since then she has gone on to perform internationally, including the opening ceremonies of the Beijing Olympics and London Paralympics. Denise is registered blind since birth. We are very proud and honoured that Denise is our Patron. Denise says, “I attended the Peter Pan centre in the mid 70s and it was literally a lifeline to me and my mum. Mum wasn’t a joiner of clubs, and therefore, I could be quite isolated as a little girl. This was emphasised by the fact that my mother was blind and didn’t drive or travel independently, however the Peter Pan playgroup, as we knew it then, offered us transport, and once I was there, the most important thing to a 4 year old, was a vast lending library of toys, which could be exchanged each session. I can still remember the excitement of bringing home a new toy, in a stretchy nylon bag, and the anguish of having to return them next time. I am so proud to be involved as a patron with The Peter Pan Centre, and continue to marvel at the difference the Centre makes to the lives of families with special needs”.

Jonty Sargeant

Jonty Sargeant

Jonty Sargeant’s voice is well known to thousands of listeners who tuned in to his radio show and Stoke City commentaries, but few know the popular DJ spent years as a child suffering from an illness which often meant he couldn’t walk or speak, and could only communicate with his parents by a series of whistles. Jonty, of Clayton, suffers from ME, also known as Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, which saw him spend a large part of his childhood in hospital, yet he still managed to carve out a career in front of the microphone at Signal Radio. He did not let his illness, or the amount of time he spent in hospital, stop him from achieving his goals. We are so proud and honoured that Jonty is our Patron. Jonty says, “I’ve been a supporter of the Peter Pan Centre for a number of years now. The work that goes on there is incredible and the impact they make is huge. To see the effect these guys have on the children is absolutely magical and I’m pleased and proud to be their patron.”

He also organised an auction in conjunction with Richard Winterton of The Lichfield Auction Centre, which was supported by more than a dozen of David Dickinson’s Real Dealers and every year, together with Mark from Just Finn’s aquatic shop on Campbell Road, he collects sweet treats for our children to enjoy at Christmas and Easter.

Si & Cliffey

Si & Cliffey

Si and Cliffey put the fun into fundraising! Every year they come up with a different fundraising challenge, from visiting all the streets on a Monopoly Board in one day, to visiting music related landmarks and live streaming the event to their friends and fans of their radio show on ‘Ay Up Duck’ radio. This year the duo are touring football stadiums and auctioning off various items of football merchandise…watch this space for more details! When asked why he supports the Peter Pan Centre, Cliffey said that “this amazing charity has children that melt your heart and staff that give you faith in humanity.”
